This acrylic painting is part of my "Hammered & Hewn Series." I start with a solid panel, then add a sculptural molding compound to create the effects of metal backgrounds. I want every part of my painting to have purpose and texture. ​The warmth of a copper fireplace inside Craftsman Farms that belonged to Gustav Stickley inspired this painting. Harvey Ellis, a talented young graphic designer and painter in the employ of Mr. Stickley, designed many of the beautiful inlays that Stickley used in his furniture. The design on the left is a nod to his work.
